So I went to a club tonight. This was the second major outing of the exchange students, and I went not because I decided it would be fun and exciting or because I got over my aversion to - pick one - dancing, drinking, loud noises, smoking. No, none of these were a factor. I went because it was free - no cover, free select drinks from 9 - 11.
“What did you drink?” you find yourself asking (especially you Sarah). I had a rum and coke to start. I chose this because I had it before with Sarah and it was safe. This incarnation was much worse… alcohol abounds. My second drink, a Screwdriver was much better, but I’m assured that it was because it was the second drink. At this point I had doubled the amount of alcoholic drinks I’d ever consumed - quite a feat for any college student. Third drink was a cranberry vodka, which was much better for being the third drink and the bartender being skimpy with the alcohol. Fourth was a non-alcoholic Shirley Temple, which was a good way to end the night, I feel.
So my first real clubbing experience was not too bad: no one tried to get me to dance, the drinks were free and pretty mild, the loud noises were tolerable, and the smoking was mostly isolated. I’d do it again, but only if I can avoid paying again. What can I say? I’m cheap. Right now I feel a bit tipsy (as in lack of balance), but I’m not in any danger of falling over, nor will I have hazy memories - those things will wait, if they ever come, for Sarah to go with me. So good night moon, good night cow, good night everyone… here’s to free drinks.
